Melbourne Cup win in the sights of Brisbane identity
Brisbane identity Noel Greenhalgh says it’s a daunting prospect to have a horse racing in the Melbourne Cup.
He’s a part-owner of Gold Trip, who is among a field of just 22 horses left racing in the Cup.
Mr Greenhalgh, who runs RW Pascoe at the Brisbane Markets, admits he gets nervous for the big races.
“When you are involved in these big races, it’s like starting a soccer game, your adrenaline is flowing,” he told Laurel, Gary and Mark.
“It can be quite daunting, but [that’s] the whole thrill of the deal.”
He also shared the pretty remarkable story of how he moved from Dublin to Brisbane at age 24, back in 1987, as a semi-professional soccer player.
He joked that he saw the sunny blue skies as he hopped off the plane, and that was it.
