Brisbane City Council will be targeting mosquitoes at mammoth rates, as the south-easy battles a La Niña induced infestation.

Over the next two months, 2400 salt and freshwater sites will be sprayed across the city’s wetlands, doubling the usual rate.

The council has announced a partnership with a specialised mosquito taskforce.

Insecticides will not be used but rather a spray that targets mosquitoes larvae.

Major wetlands deemed breeding grounds across Brisbane will be targeted.

A bacterial product will be sprayed, which mosquitoes have to eat to be killed.

The council will also attack mosquito populations in local parks.
