Donald Trump launches another White House bid
Former US president Donald Trump has filed paperwork establishing his candidacy to run for the top job again in 2024.
Trump filed his paperwork with the Federal Election Committee minutes before he made the announcement at Mar-a-Lago, his waterfront estate in Florida.
“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for President of the United States,” he said.

The former president has spent days fending off criticism from party colleagues over his involvement in key midterm contests.
Several of the Trump-endorsed Republicans running in the recent mid-term elections failed to flip seats in the GOP’s favour.
Many of those who were successful ran uncontested or were already widely expected to win their seats.
Speaking in the Mar-a-Lago ballroom, Trump described his first presidential term as a “golden age”.
“Inflation was non-existent,” he said. “Because the border was so tight, drugs were coming in at the lowest level in many, many years.”

His candidacy is yet to be endorsed by the Republican Party.
President Joe Biden, who is currently in Indonesia for the G20 Summit, responded to Trump’s announcement with a video post to Twitter.

Meanwhile, Democratic congressman David Cicilline has begun circulating legislation to bar Trump from holding office.
A letter sent to his colleagues cites the 14th Amendment, which bars individuals who have engaged in an insurrection from holding office.
“This language in our Constitution clearly intended to bar insurrectionists from holding high office in the United States,” he wrote.
“Given the proof – demonstrated through the January 6 Committee Hearings, the 2021 impeachment trial, and other reporting – that Donald Trump engaged in the insurrection on January 6 with intention of overturning the lawful 2020 election results, I have drafted legislation that would prevent Donald Trump from holding public office again under the Fourteenth Amendment.”
