Donald Trump will have more hurdles in his 2024 presidential race than before as he attempts to become only the second person ever elected to two non-consecutive terms.

The former president yesterday announced his highly-anticipated, but not altogether surprising “special announcement” at his Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago.

9News US correspondent Jonathan Kearsley was in the room and told Laurel, Gary & Mark it was clear things will be more difficult for the billionaire this time around.

“In this speech that went for around 70 minutes or so, he seemed to lose some of the supporters in the room,” he said.

“People started to move around a bit, he seemed flat at times.”

But Jono said that’s no reason to underestimate Trump.

“He’s trying to go back to that 2016, 2015-2016 mentality, when nobody thought that he’d get the Republican primary nomination, he did; nobody thought that he would win the presidential election against Hillary Clinton, he did.

“He knows how to fight as an underdog, he likes fighting as an underdog.”
