One billion young people at risk of hearing loss

John Stanley

Music is an integral part of human life. It’s all around us.

Many of us consume music all day long, but what is it doing to our ears?

Most of us know to prevent hearing loss, we have to protect our ears from loud sounds like industrial noise on a work site.

A systematic review released yesterday, Wednesday, 16th November, reported that unsafe listening practices in adolescents and young adults, from using personal listening devices and going to loud clubs and gigs, are common and a major factor contributing to hearing loss.

John Stanley speaks to Professor Robert Cowan, Audiology and Speech Pathology, at the University of Melbourne, about what we can do to prevent hearing loss.
