The plan to overhaul national guidelines for prostate cancer tests
Australia will overhaul national guidelines for prostate tests, in a plan to boost early detection of prostate cancer.
More than 24,000 Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, and more than 3500 will die from it.
As of right now, the country’s general recommendation for tests is that they be done every 2 years for people aged 50 to 69.
Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia CEO Anne Savage said a simple blood test is so important, and should become part of a routine health check.
“It’s just a simple blood test, there’s no reason at all for men to avoid this test or to be complacent,” she told Neil Breen.
“The onus is on all of us as a community to raise awareness and do something about it.”
