Fleetwood Mac singer song writer Christine McVie has died at the age of 79.

The British artist was behind hits including Little Lies, Everywhere, and Songbird.

Her family said she died peacefully in hospital after a short illness.

She has been described as having “talent beyond measure”.

Nine’s entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins said she wasn’t a celebrity who courted the spotlight, instead she preferred to maintain her privacy.

Harvey Lister, Chairman and CEO of ASM Global’s Asia Pacific division, said it was a sad morning to lose the talented songstress.

“Fleetwood Mac will go down history as having been one of the great touring bands of the world,” he told Laurel, Gary & Mark.

They toured in 1977, where they performed at Lang Park.
