Despite many Australians becoming infected with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, there are a few in the community who have been luck enough to have avoided the virus to date.

4BC listener Steve wanted to know if he could find out if he had been infected with COVID-19.

As far as he knows, he hasn’t.

It’s estimated around 11 million Australians have had COVID-19 at least once.

Dr Paul Griffin, director of infectious diseases at the Mater Hospital, said that sort of testing is out there.

“That sort of testing does exist, it’s not readily available for everybody but certain clinical laboratories do offer that sort of  test,” he said.

“We don’t do it routinely though, because it doesn’t really change too much and sometimes people can have been infected and that test may not be positive.”
