While most would be asking Santa for the usual items, the town of Cloncurry in north-west Queensland only wants one thing: more early childhood teachers.

The outback town has banded together to ask Santa for staff to teach The Curry’s youngsters after receiving a $4.4 million grant from the state government for a new childcare centre.

Their current centre has 58 students, while 38 are stuck on the waiting list.

Cloncurry Mayor Greg Campbell told Jason Dasey on 4BC Summer Drive the town’s throwing everything at the wall to entice early childhood teachers to make the move north.

“We’ve provided as much other stimulus as we can … and we’re going to need as many staff as we can get hold of now and grow that over the next 12 months or so until the new centre is built.

“Anyone who’s interested, apply voluntarily, or else you may end up in Santa’s sack and brought to us anyway!”
