Brisbane Airport abuzz on Boxing Day, thousands set to land in the Sunshine State
Around 10,000 people will move through Brisbane Airport’s international terminal today to visit the Sunshine State.
The airport is abuzz with travellers, with an average of 46,000 people passing through the airport each day.
Brisbane Airport Corporation’s head of communications, Pete Doherty, said it’s mostly arrivals.
“We are seeing 50,000 people through domestic and international today, which is up a heap from yesterday,” he told Peter Fegan on 4BC Summer Mornings.
They’re also expecting around 60,000 people to flock to the DFO for the Boxing Day sales, with traffic on Airport Drive already banked back.
The highest number of travellers leaving Queensland are travelling to New Zealand, followed by Bali, Fiji, USA and the UK.
“International [there’s] 10,00 people through today, the primary reason for travel is still just to connect with family and friends.
“The countries we are seeing people coming in from New Zealand, UK, USA, Singapore and India ranking really high.”
