A Gold Coast construction worker has relayed the moment he confronted a number of young would-be thieves rifling through his property early on Boxing Day.

The violent confrontation was all caught on camera and only lasted a minute and a half.

Steve Middleton was only in his underwear when he heard two young men rifling through cars parked in the carport, one was hooked up to a boat.

“I leaped out of bed, threw some jocks on, and have them a bit of an oi and scared the s**t out of them basically,” he told Peter Fegan.

“Tackled one of them … I was yelling and screaming trying to get my neighbour’s attention to come out.”

He said the adrenaline kicked in, and he was angry some “young punks” were rifling through his belongings.

Nothing was taken but Steve admits it could have ended badly.

“You don’t think go the consequences at the time, you are just out there to try and defend your gear, defend the house.

“That was the last thing I thought about.”
