How the United Cup works and why it’s more than a ‘warm-up’ for the Open
The inaugural United Cup gets underway in Brisbane today.
General manager Cam Pearson told Spencer Howson on 4BC Breakfast it’s far from a “warm-up” event to the Australian Open in January.
The group stages are held in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, giving Australian tennis fans the chance to see some of the best tennis international and local tennis stars.
“It’s been over 1000 days since we have had a professional event here at Pat Rafter Arena, so we are just thrilled to get the players back on court,” he said.
It’s a round robin format, and the winners will play in the Brisbane city finals.
