‘Tom wasn’t to be seen’: Mayor’s Olympics quip at Gold Coast counterpart
The Gold Coast Mayor has been labelled “entitled” for insisting the Glitter Strip hosts more events during the Brisbane Olympic Games.
The Games will roll into town in 2032 and there are reports the redevelopment of the Gabba will cost $2.5 billion instead of the initial forecast of $1 billion.
Mayor Tom Tate has suggested the Gold Coast could help by taking some of the load and hosting more events.
But his Sunshine Coast counterpart, Mark Jamieson, has weighed in, telling Dan Nolan on 4BC Summer Drive the entire south-east should benefit.
“I don’t see a lot of value, necessarily, in commenting on Tom’s desire to rule the world,” he said.
“The fact is, when the hard work was being done around Queensland winning the Olympics, Tom wasn’t to be seen.”
