What needs to happen to fix Brisbane’s most dangerous bus routes
The union representing bus drivers in Queensland is pushing for radical action in response to dangerous bus routes in Inala and Forest Lake, leaving commuters and drivers in fear.
Gangs of youths are reportedly wreaking havoc, damaging buses and frightening drivers and passengers, leaving bus drivers refusing to stop in certain suburbs at night.
Calamvale ward Councillor Angela Owen told Neil Breen last week there were numerous incidents of juvenile offenders damaging the buses to the extent they can’t be driven, making drivers’ working conditions “untenable”.
Assistant State Secretary of the Queensland Rail, Tram and Bus Union, Tom Brown, said they are pushing for urgent change, including full protective barriers to protect from so-called gangs.
“We must fix this, now is the time to do it,” he said on Brisbane Live.
“We must get this sorted and it must be safe to ride a bus and it must be safe to come to work.”
