Emergency services have rushed to a mine site in north-west Queensland, where there are reports of a “ground collapse”.

Two miners remain unaccounted for at the Dugald River mine, north-west of Cloncurry after the incident this morning.

It’s not yet clear what occured, but the Queensland Ambulance Service described it as a ground collapse.

In a statement, the company which owns the mine, MMG Limited confirmed two Barminco employees were involved in an incident and currently remain unaccounted for.

“The site’s emergency response team has been activated and is working closely with Barminco and authorities,” the statement read.

“Operations at Dugald River have been halted while the search is underway.

“MMG has extended all available resources and support to Barmico and the Dugald River mine.”

Emergency services are on the scene.
