Almost 50,000 pieces of rubbish were picked up by Clean Up Australia volunteers in Queensland last year.

The organisation has released its National Rubbish Report for 2022, revealing volunteers logged 1.8 million hours.

Clean Up Australia boss Jenny Geddes told Laurel & Mark plastics made up 73 per cent of all the items picked up in 2022.

“That was unfortunately a 28 per cent increase over the year before,” she said.
