Neil Breen crunches the numbers on Olympic Games infrastructure spend
Neil Breen says he believes it’s been clear from the start the cost for the 2032 Brisbane Games would blow-out before the state and federal governments reached a deal.
It was initially estimated it would cost $3.772 billion USD ($5 billion AUD) in the document pitched to the IOC.
But today an infrastructure funding partnership worth $7 billion was struck between the state and federal governments.
“I told you from day one that they did not know what they were buying, and when they sat down to do the sums they then quickly realised that this thing was going to cost an absolute fortune.”
