The father of a teenager stabbed to death on the Gold Coast in 2019 has welcomed the state government’s stunning breach of bail backflip.

It was revealed yesterday the government will re-introduce breach of bail as an offence for juvenile offenders.

Jack Beasley’s father Brett says they have campaigned for the change.

“If this law had stayed in back when it got squashed back in 2015, I’m not sure but I do believe that some of these victims including my son would still be with us today,” he told Neil Breen.

But he said it’s also up to the judiciary when the offence is re-instated.

The raft of new youth justice measures delayed the introduction of of Jack’s Law, named in honour of Jack Beasley.

It was expected to be debated over coming days but has now been pushed back.

It will give police unprecedented powers to check people for weapons.

“It’s Jack’s 21st coming up 2 April and we would love this law to be pushed through, it will be the best 21st birthday present he could get.”
