QLD to launch inquiry into vaping, e-cigarettes
Premier Annastacia Palasczuk yesterday has announced a parliamentary inquiry into vaping.
It follows reports primary school-aged children are getting access to vapes in Queensland, and alarming research which shows e-cigarettes and vaping is on the rise.
Dr Raglan Maddox, a Professor from the ANU College of Health and Medicine, says they’re easily and readily available.
“We continue to see … increases among never smokers and youth and young people and as young as [kids] within primary schools and high schools,” he told Sofie Formica.
He said the biggest issue is around enforcement.
“We know at the moment we are on a prescription only model around nicotine for e-cigarettes, but that hasn’t necessarily been enforced across the country.”
How e-cigarettes are being imported into Australia also needs better action.
