Police nab alleged speedsters during Saturday night crackdown

Police were ready and waiting to catch alleged hoons using the M1 near as a speedway on Saturday night as part of a major blitz.
In recent weeks, the Gold Coast sign near Yatala has become a popular spot for dozens of hoons, performing dangerous stunts and burn-outs, and even blocking the highway.
Gold Coast Superintendent Geoff Sheldon said it’s been an ongoing problem.
“One week ago there was 300 cars and they simply blocked the whole highway and run around for their Insta moment, filming themselves and doing burn outs,” he told Neil Breen.
“If you’ve driven past it lately the road is completely covered in lack tyre marks.”
But on Saturday night, 40 police officers were waiting to catch them.
Nine people were arrested, most with drug charges.
Superintendent Sheldon said it’s only a matter of time until someone is killed.
“There’s no members of Mensa in this group, they are not real bright,” he said.
“They are risking themselves and their mates, they are not going to listen to us and believe that it is dangerous until someone does get hurt.”
