The Qld town paying people $20,000 to move in
A rural Queensland town is so keen to grow, it’s offering people thousands of dollars to move there.
The outback town of Quilpie is raising its Home Owner Grants scheme from $12,500 to $20,000.
And with some plots listed for less than $20,000, it means buyers would essentially be getting the land for free.
Quilpie Shire Council Mayor Stuart Mackenzie told Sofie Formica it’s hoped the program will bring the town’s population back up to 1000.
“Like a lot of places, we’ve just got a real housing problem,” he said. “We’ve got more people than houses and more jobs than people!”
