A number of service stations across Brisbane are reportedly refusing to accept cash, creating a headache for customers filling up their cars.

David from Fernvale first raised the alarm after being turned away from a Krispy Kreme kiosk at the Shell Roadhouse in Nudgee because he wanted to pay in cash.

“I said, ‘How can you refuse cash when it’s legal tender?'” David told Sofie. “He kept saying it’s not legal tender and it’s not against the law to refuse cash as payment.”

Grant from Brightview later told Sofie Formica he ran into some trouble when a BP on the Warrego Highway wouldn’t accept cash after he’d fueled up at 11pm one night.
