It comes less than two weeks after the passing of Jack’s Law, named after Brett’s 17-year-old son Jack Beasley, who was killed while on a night out with friends at Surfers Paradise in December 2019.
“We’re absolutely devastated to hear this,” Brett told Peter Fegan on 4BC Drive.
“We had a bit of a hunch that this may happen, but to get the phone call this morning to say that he’s appealed and we’ve got to front up … on Friday.
“It’s an absolute kick in the guts for us, it really is.”
A boy, who was 15 at the time, pleaded guilty to Jack’s murder during a trial in 2022.
Another boy, who was 17 at the time, pleaded guilty to manslaughter while three other teens were acquitted.
They cannot be named for legal reasons.
Queensland Attorney-general Shannon Fentiman said the Court of Appeal will decide if the appeal is successful
