Hip-drop tackles have become a point of tension and confusion for players, fans and commentators alike.

Broncos duo, Payne Haas and Ezra Mam, were charged with grade 2 dangerous contact charges over their hip-drop tackles during their win over Parramatta Eels on Friday night.

Plus, Eels forward J’Maine Hopgood was charged with a grade 1 offence during the same game.

For Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin’s return to Wide World of Sports, Peter Psaltis and Fatty addressed the controversial hip-drop tackle.

“It’s another one of these catchphrases that have come into the game”, Peter Psaltis commented.

Fatty believes its “ruining” the game; “if you don’t make that tackle… then mate the players are away and away they go”, he said.

“They’re just players desperately trying to make a tackle and bring someone to the ground”.

“This is a heavy body-contact game… there has to be some leeway for accidental tackles”.
