Rockhampton residents have taken youth crime into their own hands; Sofie Formica speaks to the ‘vigilante’ at the centre of the rally.

A rally of more than one-hundred upset citizens broke out in a crime-riddled Rockhampton suburb on Sunday.

The man behind the rally and former One Nation candidate, Torin O’Brien, spoke to Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons.

Mr O’Brien responded to being called a vigilante by saying, “you can call us what you like… we’ve had enough and if a vigilante group is what gets the government working than that’s what we are”.

The rally, with aims to be a type of neighbourhood watch group, visited addresses of alleged youth crime offenders.

According to Mr O’Brien, there were more police on the scene of the first house they visited than he’d “ever seen anywhere in Rockhampton” in his life and they got there unprecedently fast to protect a house full of alleged “criminals and stolen cars”.

“That’s why people are upset… It’s just so insulting”, Mr O’Brien said.
