ABC makes 120 employees redundant as part of new digital-first strategy
The ABC has announced 120 job cuts, including their political editor Andrew Probyn, and are instead deciding to invest more into their digital platforms.
With the sacking of high-profile journalist Andrew Probyn, it’s clear the ABC believe they no longer require a political editor.
The changes being rolled out are reported to be part of a savings strategy to address rising costs and support the ABC’s transition to a digital-first media organisation.
Among the ABC’s transitions, they will introduce ABC News Sunday – a new national bulletin.
Neil Breen said on Brisbane Live, “now that is spin for ‘we’re only going to have one bulletin on a Sunday and it’ll be a national one, and we’re getting rid of the bulletins in Darwin, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth and all the regional areas'”.
