Is restorative justice the answer to high youth crime rates?

Article image for Is restorative justice the answer to high youth crime rates?

Restorative justice is positively impacting youth crime rates, which is decreasing  reoffending rates.

Restorative justice provides an opportunity for perpetrators to meet one-on-one with victims.

Amber Williams, CEO of Resolution Institute, told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, “It’s an opportunity for victims and perpetrators to come to come together to hold the person who really caused the harm or the offence accountable for their actions.”

Ms. Williams continued, “In a three-year period, the people who did engage in that [restorative justice] either, 77% of offenders didn’t reoffend, or the offending magnitudes were greatly reduced.”
