Resale values of electric cars needs consideration
Of interest with this week’s official V-Facts June car sales figures was that the
Tesla Model Y electric SUV was the second-best seller behind Toyota’s Hilux ute
with an impressive delivery tally of 5560 as a huge shipment of the Chinese built
SUVs arrived in the country. Of course, many of these Tesla Model Y’s were
ordered some time ago so it is doubtful they will repeat the sales numbers any
time soon. Interestingly, if you bought a Tesla Model Y in June last year the price
was $72,300 plus on road costs. The same SUV today costs $6,900 less at
$65,400, a 10 per cent drop. Which brings me to the point that re-sale values of
electric cars are going to be far worse than petrol and diesel models – Tesla has
had no less than 8 price variations in the last 12 months. I’m David Berthon
