The biggest players of the insurance, building and local government sectors are calling on the government to ban all housing developments from “high-risk” floodplain areas in Queensland.

However, a leading floodplain management specialist has resisted the idea, saying it would not be practical on a large scale.

Managing Director at Synergy Solutions, Adam Berry, told Peter Gleeson on 4BC Drive, “If you look at the size and extent of that floodplain and a lot of areas, it’s likely not practical.”

“But exclusively, I guess, sterilizing development isn’t always an option, in some cases it’s not practical.” Mr. Berry continued.
