FULL SHOW: 4BC Weekend Breakfast with Olympia Kwitowski, Saturday 21st September 2024

Olympia Kwitowski

On the show today: Olympia covers the day’s headlines, including the new Brisbane City Council flood maps that have triggered a tenfold increase in insurance costs for some residents; with homes that have never flooded now being considered high-risk zones. We hear your feedback on this issue.
Gardening is back for another week, and sees Paul Plant and Olympia discuss compost: what can you add to enhance your composting? Paul talks through some of the options and what to keep in mind. Paul also answers your questions about gall wasps, eliminating invasive bamboo, and how to get rid of small fungus gnats that fly around some pot plants.
PLUS Paul introduces his plant of the week: the Burle Marx Prayer Plant (ctenanthe burle-marxii) – a Brazilian native that has a lovely fish-bone pattern.

In the second hour; Olympia chats with local business owner Kylie Loch from Little Genovese at Coorparoo, as rising café prices see some punters paying more than $7 for a takeaway coffee. Kylie tells us if she thinks $7 for a small coffee is a reasonable amount to pay, and how council, electricity and lack of infrastructure are adding to small business pressures across the board.
Greyhound Adoption Day is happening in Capalaba today, and we hear from GAP Rehoming Manager Lisa Kohler on how you can get involved to give these retired race hounds a loving home.
PLUS: We hear from Andrew South of First National By The Bay for a weekly real estate update.
