Why your electricity bills keep going up
Have you ever wondered why your energy bills keep going up when the government promised they would go down?
A large portion of your energy bills goes toward paying for network costs, including transmission and distribution, specifically, the poles and wires that carry electricity across the grid.
And the priority of the Australian Energy Market Operator and the Energy Regulator has been to approve more wind and solar projects, often without means testing alternate options, which results in the need for more transmission infrastructure.
Luke Grant chats with the Director of Energy Research at the Centre for Independent Studies, Aidan Morrison, about how AEMO has sought to implement the government’s net-zero emissions policy at all costs and his appearance before the parliamentary committee into nuclear energy.
