Australia Day celebrations banned in more than 200 pubs across the country
Australia Day celebrations have been banned at more than 200 pubs and bars across the country, including at least 90 in Queensland.
The nation’s second-biggest pubs group, Australian Venue Co, has informed managers there will be no celebrations or acknowledgment of Australia Day at their premises in 2025. The change comes due to claims the day causes ‘sadness’ and ‘hurt’ for some patrons.
Peter Fegan commented on 4BC Breakfast, ‘I am so sick and tired of big corporations setting the moral compass.’
Warren Mundine told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “It’s not about anyone else, it’s about Australians, it’s about Australia.”
“It’s about all these people that came here as immigrants after the Second World War… and helped with Indigenous people and other people who were here before that and built this great nation.”
“That’s what we should be celebrating,’ Mundine said.
