FULL SHOW: 4BC Weekend Breakfast with Olympia Kwitowski, Saturday 14th December 2024

Olympia Kwitowski

On the show today: Olympia covers the headlines including new research revealing that Australian smokers aged 50+ are turning to cannabis instead of cigarettes! We hear your thoughts on this interesting statistic.

Gardening is back for another week with Paul Plant! Paul and Olympia discuss the recent exploding cherries saga that has affected many crops in New South Wales and Victoria. Paul also gets stuck into your questions straight away, with tips for treating mealy bugs on a Paw Paw plant, how to grow a blueberry bush in our subtropical climate, treating dwindling SnapDragon plants, and reviving a Hibiscus plant.
PLUS Paul shares his plant of the week – the ‘Little Emerald’ or Tabernaemontana corymbosa. It’s a small, compact and self-shaping plant that brings white flowers through the warmer months.

In the second hour; if you’re planning to start a family, there’s a lot to think about before you begin trying for a baby. But there’s one step that’s often overlooked—genetic carrier screening. This simple test can help identify potential genetic variations in you and your partner that could affect your baby’s health. Professor Leslie Burnett joins us to talk more about what genetic carrier screening involves and why it’s worth considering.

Elsewhere, The Mowbray Park CityCat terminal at Kangaroo Point re-opened on Monday after an eight-month upgrade. However, Brisbane City Council announced that the re-opening of Mowbray Park meant stops at the Apollo Road and Milton ferry terminals would be reduced. Morningside Ward Councillor Lucy Collier, joins to shed some light on the situation and how this could impact residents.

PLUS: We hear from Ryan McCann of First National Cleveland for a weekly real estate update.
