Queensland has received more than a month’s worth of rain in the last four days.

Flood releases at Wivenhoe Dam are set to begin for the first time in two years as the threat of more severe thunderstorms looms following 141mm of overnight deluge.

Minister for Emergency Services and Police, Dan Purdie told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, ‘I just want to assure people we are experienced when it comes to our wild summers here in Queensland.’

‘People need to do what they can to get themselves ready to assist our emergency service personnel who are leaning in already and monitoring this situation, but you know the usual things about if it’s flooded forget it, don’t take unnecessary risks, don’t drive into flood water,’ Purdie said.

‘Unfortunately, we still see people doing that summer after summer and it more often than not ends in tears.’

‘So, don’t do it, heed the advice from our disaster management experts and I assure you we are as prepared as we possibly can be,’ Purdie continued.
