‘Slow down’: Shoppers warned to exercise caution when making online purchases
New research shows one in three Aussies have been directed to fake websites by cyber criminals, with a further one in ten falling victim to these ploys.
Bonnie Brady, Consumer Insights Expert at PayPal Australia told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, ‘The thing is, AI technology has evolved. What that [means] is that scammers have now got the ability to create some really convincing fake websites, social media ads, and emails.’
‘What these scammers are doing is they’re creating this real sense of urgency to make shoppers feel pressured to make a purchase. They want to basically take you through that purchase journey nice and fast.’
‘While it is tempting to multitask, we’re all guilty of it… It is really important for us to ensure that we do slow down and verify that retailer before we do head to the checkout.’
