‘Need international collaboration’: Calls to combat large fires with a global approach

Dean Miller
The scenes coming out of LA are devastating to watch, they are somewhat reminiscent of the bushfires that ravaged the east coast of Australia five years ago.

It makes you wonder “Is there anything we can do to prevent these fires? Is there anything we can do to stop these fires from getting so out of control?”

Retired QLD fire commander, Graeme Thom told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, “Whats happening over there is devastating and it shouldn’t be happening, the firefighters are doing an amazing job but they can’t cope with something like that, so you have got to cope with it a different way.”

“We have the technology and the capability to detect a fire almost anywhere in the world… and apply the appropriate resources to that fire so it doesn’t get any bigger than a manageable fire,” Mr Thom continued.
