‘Serious oversight’: ‘Adult crime, adult time’ policy fails to encapsulate Yamanto stabbing attack

Queenslanders have been left shocked this week following an alleged stabbing attack perpetrated by a 13-year-old boy in Yamanto that has left a supermarket employee in a serious condition.

This attack is the first test for the LNP’s attempts to crack down on crime and many have criticised the new ‘adult crime, adult time’ laws, saying they have failed the test.

Bond University criminologist Dr Terry Goldsworthy told Dean Miller on 4BC Summer Breakfast, “Its a huge blunder by the government… the fact that [attempted murder] wasn’t included is a serious oversight.”

“Many offenders, not just youth offenders, don’t sit there and do a cost-benefit analysis as to whether the crime will be worth the time,” Dr Goldsworthy continued.
