Sign language interpreters enhance access to events for the deaf community

Shane Doherty

Sign language interpreters are increasingly being included at events and on-screen.

Auslan Stage Left is an organisation that enables the deaf community to experience events such as theatre, music, dance, art, festivals, and more.

Auslan Interpreter Mikey Webb told Shane Doherty on Summer Drive, “But the fact that a deaf person can go along [to a concert] and enjoy it with their next-door neighbour or their cousins or their family members, that’s the special part.”

“It’s about the experience, not necessarily the music,” Mr Webb continued.
