NSW dog ownership could soon be subject to new laws

Mike Jeffreys

Mike speaks with Kathy Kopellis McLeod, Dog Behaviour Expert, about potential new laws that could require Australian dog owners to obtain a licence.

The review comes in response to a series of recent dog attacks. In NSW, proposed changes may include harsher penalties for owners whose dogs harm others, especially if they fail to comply with safety notices.

Those keeping dogs for security purposes could also be affected, as current exemptions from liability for attacks on trespassers may be removed.

Meanwhile, NSW coroners are conducting inquests into fatal dog attacks.
