‘It is here to stay’: Brisbane Metro back in operation as ‘permanent service’ begins

Brisbane Metro is returning for good today after much debate and several trial runs.

Metro Line 2, which runs from RBWH to UQ in St Lucia, will open this morning while Metro Line 1, which runs from Eight Mile Plains to Roma Street, will start mid-year.

Brisbane City Councillor and Chair of Transport Ryan Murphy told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “It’s been a long journey to get here, eight years, this has been a real labour of love for us at City Hall.”

“It’s a great day for Brisbane and it’s just the start of our transition from public transport to mass transit,” Cr Murphy said.
