Popular pain relief drugs to face new restrictions
Mike speaks with Dr. Kate Wang, Senior Lecturer at RMIT and a pharmacist, about new paracetamol sales restrictions starting Saturday.
Smaller pack sizes and purchase limits aim to reduce overdose risks, as paracetamol can cause severe liver damage. It leads to 225 hospitalizations annually and is a major cause of poisoning in young children.
Dr. Wang stresses the need for pharmacist-patient discussions on safe use, pre-existing conditions, and hidden paracetamol in other medications. While pharmacist workload concerns exist, she prioritizes patient safety.
