‘Sad outcome’: Moreton Bay homeless community forced to move

Moreton Bay council has been issuing compliance notices for homeless residents at Suttons Beach park in Redcliffe forcing residents to move within 2 days or face hefty fines.

Beau Haywood, the founder of local food charity Nourish Street has been assisting the homeless in the area and he told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, “When you become homeless, depression kicks in pretty quick.”

“And then when you’ve got to move on like this, it really does impact your mental health.

“There’s been people out there that have said to me, I might as well just go back to jail.”

The City of Moreton Bay reached out following the interview with Beau Haywood and provided this release, and the following right of reply, “It is disingenuous for Beau to compare the very serious public health issue at Gayundah Arboretum to local laws compliance at Suttons Beach.”
