‘No community impact at this time’: Over 800,000 litres of crude oil spilt at the Port of Brisbane

Peter Fegan

Over 800,000 litres of crude oil has been spilt at the Port of Brisbane.

The incident occurred at about 5 pm yesterday afternoon, and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services estimate that it could take over a week to clean up.

QFES Chief Superintendent Steve De Pinto told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, “It’s not that common, but it does happen from time to time and the design of those facilities are designed in such a way to manage issues like this.”

“There is some possibilities that are being explored, but there’s no ship involved and this is a land-based tank,” Chief De Pinto said.
