‘It’s a lifeline’: Advocacy group calls for an alternative to existing emergency communications
A leading communications advocacy organisation for consumers is calling on authorities to be better prepared for natural disasters following Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Australian Communications Consumer Action Network chief executive Carol Bennett says there’s a need for an alternative for emergency communications.
“In times of disaster, it’s a lifeline. We need to be able to access Triple Zero, we need to be able to contact friends and family and tell them how we are,” she told Sofie Formica.
“This should be a fundamental thing we’ve put in place,” she added.
