Is self-hypnosis the answer to treating Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Irritable Bowel Syndrome impacts around 3.6 million Australians, with common remedies including dietary and stress management.
However, self-hypnosis could alleviate the symptoms of IBS.
Psychophysiologist and gut-directed hypnotherapist, Dr Simone Peters told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons, “Looking at the evidence and looking at the efficacy of this therapy, we realised actually that hypnotherapy works just as well as dietary-based intervention.”
“So out of the IBS patient population, we know that about 80 per cent of people respond to this as a treatment, and of those people who respond, we see about a 70 to 75 per cent reduction in their symptoms,” Dr Peters continued.
