ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has told a group of communications specialists he’s “over the mainstream media” and “hates journalists”.

Mr Barr launched the stunning attack on the media while setting out his new plans to bypass traditional media.

He started his speech saying he’d make statements which “may or not shock some people in the room”.

“I hate journalists. I’m over dealing with mainstream media as a form of communication with the people of Canberra.

“What passes for a daily newspaper in this city is a joke and it will be only a matter of years before it closes down.”

Ray laughed at the Chief Minister’s ill-advised outburst, saying he’s glad he’s a ‘shock jock’ and not a journalist.

“It’s a nice way to get offside with the print media.”
