This pilot defied the odds to fulfill her lifelong ambition
Helen Geering gets a “thrill” from flying, but she’s always got her hands firmly on the controls.
As the first pilot officer on British Airways’ Boeing 777, she shares with Chris Smith how she came to fly the airline’s largest fleet of aircraft.
Originally studying pharmacology, Helen joined the university air squadron.
“Unfortunately my arms are too short to be a pilot.”
So instead, she pursued the commercial route.
18 months into her journey, she’s visited places like Houston, the Caribbean, Machu Picchu and even Australia.
“In January, I did get to fulfill a lifelong ambition and that was to land a plane in Australia.”
