Staff from the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) have held a three-day taxpayer-funded conference at a luxury resort on the Sunshine Coast.

The junket is believed to have cost more than half a million dollars with the AAT booking out the 361-room Novotel Twin Waters resort.

The agency is under scrutiny for a series of decisions to allow foreign criminals to remain in Australia.

Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton tells Ray Hadley the tribunal needs to clean up its act.

“I hope that part of their deliberation up at the resort was to look at ways they can start to reflect community standards more regularly than what we see at the moment.

“I think people want to see community standards reflected, people want criminals kicked out of our country.”

Mr Dutton also praised One Nation Senator Brian Burston for breaking rank and sticking by the government’s company tax cuts.
