A tradie has bravely managed to foil a brazen thief who attempted to steal a van south of Melbourne today.

CCTV captured the entire incident, showing the man jump into the vehicle in a car park and attempt to drive away.

A workmate of the vehicle’s owner sees the alleged thief and gives chase, managing to open the door.

The driver accelerates away but hits a bump, sending him flying out of the open door where he is confronted by the tradie.

The 33-year-old Carrum Downs man has been arrested and will face court.
