‘It’s madness, sheer madness’: Hanson calls for immigration rate plebiscite
Government is facing renewed pressure to reduce immigration numbers.
A report by the Australian Population Research Institute has established a correlation between a growing migrant population and escalating housing prices, with young families struggling to get a foothold in the market.
Senator Pauline Hanson is pushing for a plebiscite on Australia’s immigration rate. She believes curtailing our migrant intake will help burst the property market bubble, as well as alleviate substantial burdens on infrastructure and congestion.
“I’m moving a private members’ bill,” Hanson explains.
“We’ve got the numbers they’re bringing in at the moment, between 230,000 and 250,000 a year. It’s estimated to be about 914,000 over the next four years. We’re growing 1 person every 1 minute and 24 seconds. This increased population, we can’t handle it.”
“It’s having such an impact on our way of life and our standard of living. It’s madness, sheer madness.”
Hanson laments that anecdotally, many feel deprived of a voice when it comes to the population issue.
“The public have never been involved in this conversation and debate. Politicians have locked the public out of this.”
“We as the Australian people have a right to have a say in what the population of this country will be.”
